Hello Everybody to the New Rotary Year.
Welcome to our new President Claire Haines. And a big THANK YOU to outgoing President Emily and our best wishes to her.
Welcome to our new members - Diane & Jonathan Miller and Paul Beedham
I am hoping to be able to manage this forum more directly from here on. So there will be new teething troubles, please bear with me.

We have a suggestion that we need to design a club banner. Do we have aspiring designers out there that could help us. We would use the design to make an e-banner and also use it as a basis for badges you could download and make,

Thank you Chris and Happy New Year to all our members
Here at the Support Centre in Alcester we have already started off the new Rotary year with an ongoing local community project - the first Friday of every month we are collecting for our local foodbank.
This is a copy of what was sent to all staff here - our members may wish to do something similar in their local communities...
Happy New Rotary Year from the E-club of Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland!
Our first project is Foodbank Friday – the first Friday of each month we will be collecting for our local Foodbank – in the staff room there’s a box labelled:-
Foodbank Friday Donations please…
Your contributions will be appreciated and feedback (!) will be given on what has been raised.
You don’t need to be an E-club member to contribute – kind and generous colleagues are welcome to join in!

Hi all,
Tom, who is a member of our e-club and valued member of the Support Centre Team, is raising money this weekend by taking part in a sponsored abseil off of the Holte End stand at Villa Park in order to raise money for the Aston Villa Foundation.
Please support and help Tom achieve his goal of raising £100 by 6th August!

Greetings to all!! It is indeed a new Rotary year and I am going to be a regular participant on this Forum. I have returned from the RI Convention in Hamburg and am motivated to be a very active Rotarian. I will continue my regular work with Alerta, a Facebook based charity here in the Algarve who functions to keep the public informed about wild fire conditions and to support volunteer firefighters who are on the front lines. I am international vice-president of the Rotarian Wine Appeciation Fellowship and actively support the local food bank.

Best of luck to Claire in her new role as President. Back in 2008, I designed the District 1060 logo for the Link Weekend that we hosted that year. It was originally used for badges for the Rotary Scholars and has then continued to be used in other ways. I would be happy to draft something that we can use for the Club's badges, banners, etc. Paul

Hello Everyone - now I am an interloper as I'm not an active member of RC GB&I but a member of Redditch Kingfisher in D1060! However, my interest in this group is genuine and of course due to my job (General Secretary of Rotary GB&I) I am here to help you in anyway I can...
On the design front, I was wondering if you might want to have soem member badges made up? You are all in different locations and when you go to visit other clubs as Wendy has done recently, you'd be able to let your new friends know your name and club without flexing their memories too hard!
I'll leave that thought with you :-)

I thought if we design an e-banner (underway by Paul) we could use the basis of that design in name badges which we could download.

I thought if we design an e-banner (underway by Paul) we could use the basis of that design in name badges which we could download. That sounds good to me. I can build in the requirement to be recognisable on a smaller scale in a name badge - or at least have a piece that can be used for that. I have a Redhat Certification exam in Berlin on Thursday and will be there for the three days before that for preparation. I'll have a lot more time after that and will get something out for 'review' not too long beyond that.

The Rotary Club of Birmingham Breakfast circulated an invitation to join their meeting this morning via Zoom web conferencing - something they were already using to allow their speaker, Amy Porter, to talk to them from the Dominican Republic. Not only was this 3,000 miles away, but 5 hours behind in time - so Amy started her talk at 03:07 in the morning (local time)! Amy works for Yspaniola and is supporting one of 200 'shanty town' communities that originally housed the migrant workers from Haiti that were brought in for the sugar plantations. They never returned and were joined by families, resulting in large impoverished communities that suffer from massive discrimination. Amy illustrated this by pointing out that a child born there - in the Dominican Republic - has 'foreigner in transit' on their birth certificate. They now have water provided 5 days a week and a reasonably reliable electricity supply, but no government funding at all. Her charity have rented a school facility, but it floods in rain. Even so, they have managed to raise the education level considerably, with the majority of children 7-9 now able to read & write in Spanish - with their home language being Haitian Creole, this is a fantastic achievement. Yspaniola has a team of 15 and believes strongly about investing in local people. University Scholarships have resulted in 4 graduates now working in the community - expanding the available skills and encouraging local talent. They are largely dependent on individual donors. Yes, there is a local Rotary Club and we are encouraging Amy to make contact with them and see what can be done on a wider scale to support the amazing work she is doing. Great to see the talk and share with a number of remote attendees, including one on his way to work!

Hello EverybodyI agree, it will be great to have some snazzy badges so when we do visit other clubs people will know who we are! Just a reminder, if anyone is in the West Midlands area tomorrow – Saturday 13th July and they wish to support our neighbouring Rotary Club of Astwood Bank then you are welcome to join them in the afternoon at the Astwood Bank Carnival – their Rotary club members and helpers are running the Youth Zone Games plus a membership drive (all money raised goes to the Carnival Committee for distribution to local Redditch charities). Our first foodbank donations went well last week and we will continue to collect on the first Friday each month - HUNGRY HOLIDAYS is no fun for children who are normally on free school meals... Happy weekend everyone!

Hi Everyone
Wow. I am so pleased with all the response. I really want a badge. Thank you all for the positive response. Looking forward to seeing the design. However if I can download it and print off. Excuse the stupid question but will it be paper / card or what. Please someone educate this silly woman. Also wish I could add my picture on the profile but have failed several times. Even Tom has tried so there is no hope for me.
All the best and welcome all the new members.
Wendy
