Hi Everybody
Connecting with other Rotary club members…
How do you feel about joining in activities with the nearby club of Redditch Kingfisher?
Its incoming Rotary President, Liz Webber 2019/20 has kindly offered us the opportunity to do just that…
There are a number of things in the Kingfisher Programme list we may be interested in:
- Astwood Bank Carnival on Saturday 13th July, where Rotary is running the Youth Zone Games plus a membership drive (all money raised goes to the Carnival Committee for distribution to local Redditch charities). Pairs of hands in the afternoon are always welcome to manage a game and take the money!
- Foundation BBQ on the afternoon of the Saturday 27th July at 3pm to be held at one of its member’s houses in Webheath for members, family and friends (hence we would be included!). It will be a ticket price of around £10, plus raffle and the results from a silent skills auction – all to raise money for our Rotary International Foundation.
- Skittles Night in August - exact date and time to be confirmed…
- World Polio Day event (albeit to be held on Sunday 27 October!) details to be provided in due course, and extra support will definitely be needed to manage the event on the day! Followed up by another community opportunity on Rotary Day on Sunday 23 February to see the results!
- BBC Children in Need fundraising on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th November (railway/bus stations on the 8th, Kingfisher Shopping Centre on the 9th where there’ll be a children’s activity “Paint Your Pants for Pudsey”) – supporting the national Rotary partnership. Bucket shakers and help to manage children most welcome!
- Astwood Bank Hard Half Marathon, which is currently being considered by the County Council before we set a date to market it beforehand. Marshalls will definitely be needed on the day!
- Monthly (1st Thursday of the month) Memory Café at the Church Hall in Astwood Bank where volunteers are also wanted for the rota…
- More quiz nights to be confirmed at Ridgeway
- Big and Mini Breakfasts to be planned and dates agreed so a sales team is certainly required!
Kingfisher Rotarians will reciprocate and offer their support with our club’s activities… Personally, I think it’s great idea and fun to pool resources whenever we can to achieve a greater impact within the community What do you think? Hello Everyone. Made a visit to a club at Ramsgate Kent last week. Received a lovely welcome from President Pat. It is only a small club of about 16 members, but due to the virus doing the rounds only 8 members were present, even the guest speaker had to pull out at the last minute. A very enjoyable evening. Nothing stuffy, we played a quiz instead of listening to a speaker. Lovely meal of Fish and Chips. It was interesting to hear just how many clubs have such small numbers. As some of you know I am passionate about recruitment and retention. Life today is very different and many young people have little time for activities outside their family commitments. I wonder if there is anything that can be done to recruit. I was due to visit another club this week, but this virus has not caught up with me, but I will be on the road again soon.
Interesting post from Claire. Wish I was closer , would love to join in.
